Common questions
Why does a DOCX or ZIP file look unreadable?
HexScope displays raw file bytes. It does not unpack compressed documents or turn them into their original text.
How do I display Chinese characters or emoji?
Choose UTF-8 in the Display menu for UTF-8 data. Other encodings are not detected automatically. Combined emoji can appear as separate Unicode scalars; invalid sequences use placeholders.
Why is the copied range shorter than my selection?
Copy includes the selection on the current page. Use Export to save the complete selection, including bytes on other pages.
Why can’t HexScope reopen a recent file?
Use Open File to select it again. If a restore-access dialog appears, select the original file there. Check that the file is still available and readable.
What does “source changed” during export mean?
Another process may have changed the file. Wait for it to finish, refresh the source, review the selected range and export again.
